Fun Events

With events from balloon festivals to the arts, you're sure to find something fun to do in Washington County this summer.  The 13th annual Cambridge Valley Balloon Festival, held June 7th-9th, features four launches of 10 hot air balloons, fireworks, the Taste of Cambridge with local producers and restaurants showcased, and Moon Glow, a nighttime display of cold burner illuminated tethered balloons synchronized to music. The weekend event includes rides, games and entertainment for the whole family. Visitors can learn more at

Friends of the IBA  invite you to Olvia Vineyards on Saturday, June 8 located on Route 4 in Fort Edward invites and welcomes you to join them for the return of grassland songbirds! Plenty of brilliant sights and songs to delight the senses, from sweet-singing Meadowlarks to bubbly Bobolinks, Bluebirds and more. Presentations, Interactive Bird Photography Workshop and in the evening from 5-9pm, a Wine & Cheese reception with the artists at  "IBA NIGHT OUT" 

Father’s Day weekend events, June 14th-15th, include the 21st annual Whipple City Festival, featuring a 5K race/walk, a parade with themed floats, musical entertainment, craft fair and carnival rides. More information on this event can be found at this web page.

Al Fresco weekend, July 27-28, at the Historic Salem Courthouse is a true celebration of our agricultural heritage and everything good Salem has to offer. This wonderful locally sourced dinner features live entertainment and an extensive silent auction on Saturday.  Come dance the evening away!  Enjoy mouth watering brunch prepared by 8 area chefs on Sunday. Event includes live entertainment and an antiques and farmer's market. 

 For the y oungcompetitive individuals don’t miss the 17th annual Lake Lauderdale Youth Angler Fishing Tournament on August 18th.  This catch and release event is free to children up to 15 years of age.  Food and refreshments provided to youth anglers.

If you are looking for family fun, head to the Washington County Fair in Easton, NY held August 19th-25th. Entertainment, food, 4-H displays, music, rides, and animals highlight this event which has been “an agricultural tradition for over a century.” Adult admission is $10 and children under 14 are free; there is no charge for parking. Boating and Rafting

Washington County has plenty of choices for fun on the water. Canoe or kayak the Hudson, Batten Kill or Mettawee Rivers or one of seven lakes and ponds. Cruise the Champlain Canal or put in on the Eastern Shore of Lake George. For more on our boating in Washington County, visit our boating page. Fly Fishing

Misty mornings on the river looking for that big catch are waiting for you in Washington County. A trout fishing haven, the Batten kill features natural brown trout, which anglers can try to catch using synthetic flies (no other lure/bait is allowed by law). In addition to the Batten kill, the nearby Mettawee and Hidden Pools are also popular spots for fly fishing enthusiasts.  



Did you know that part of Washington County is located in New York's Adirondack Park? There are several hiking trails on and near the Eastern Shore of Lake George that range from easy to difficult.  Learn more about our hiking trails here


Fun On The Farm

Learn about local foods and farms at several hotspots for agri-tourism in Washington County. Be sure to visit Battenkill Valley Creamery for milk and ice cream made locally. It is a delicious way to cool off on a summer afternoon. History and Museums

The Slate Valley Museum features the local history of slate mining in both Washington County and the surrounding area. For more information on The Slate Valley Museum, visit

The Skenebourgh Museum in Whitehall located on the Champlain Canal highlights the birthplace of the U.S. Navy and the silk industry. Look across the canal and see the last remaining structure of the seven sisters which is Skene Manor.
Fort Edward includes Old House Museum, Washington County Historical Society and Rogers Island Visitors Center once the home to Rogers Rangers - the heart of the U.S. Army Rangers.

Washington County is home to many art galleries and locally-owned shops featuring local artisans. Stroll through a scenic village for a bite to eat and a visit to a locally-owned store or stop by a gallery to find a unique treasure or artwork. From Whitehall to Cambridge to Fort Edward you will find world class chamber music, Cabaret and Musical Theater with performers that include Tony nominees, Broadway and TV talents, and original productions with local performers, and a choral with over 100 beautiful voices that will truly move you. The rural landscape of Washington County is home to a wide variety of accomplished performing art centers and presenting organizations. The magical performances take place in unusual places - converted barns, Century old Opera Houses, an 1840 Church, a Prison, a dairy farm and along the canal. Golf, Polo, Soccer and Lacrosse

Washington County has more than a few ways to chase white balls. A number of 9 and 18 hole golf courses dot the county; Golden Goal Sports Complex located in Fort Ann offer soccer, lacrosse and field hockey camps and tournaments. Surya Polo offers exciting polo matches on Saturdays June through August, polo lessons and group programs.
